As experienced family lawyers, we understand that if you are not familiar with the process, it can be difficult to navigate the online divorce application process here in Australia.
Here at Amicus, we believe that getting a divorce should be as simple and straightforward as possible. Our fixed-fee solutions mean there are no hidden costs. Instead, you’ll just get an affordable, guaranteed result that allows you to move on with your life and put the past behind you.
To help minimise disruption to your life and to help you move on and thrive, we have put together this guide on how to get a divorce in Australia. This way, no matter where you are in the country, you can decide whether to go through the divorce process with the help of our expert lawyers or alone.
How we can help
The divorce process in Australia can be relatively straightforward if you and your ex-partner both agree you want to obtain a Divorce Order. However, in order to qualify for an Australian divorce, you’ll need to meet several criteria.
It is possible to do your divorce yourself though chartering unfamiliar family law and procedural waters isn’t for everyone, particularly those that are time poor.
For this reason, most people use a lawyer to help them file their divorce application.
This is where we come in. At Amicus, we can help you through this process. For a small, fixed fee, we can complete all the steps required and file an accurate application on your behalf. Plus, everything can be done online, so there’s no need to worry about visiting our office. You can complete the process at a time and a place that suits you.

With our help, you’ll be able to:
To get started, all you need to do is answer a few simple questions about your situation and we’ll be able to offer you a fixed-price quote for our services. This fixed cost includes all professional fees and disbursements, so you’ll never have to worry about any unexpected bills or nasty surprises.
Divorce Application Fees
When you apply for an online divorce in Australia, you need to pay the appropriate divorce application fee to the court. Currently, the divorce filing fee is $1,100, although this can be reduced to $365 if you qualify for a reduced fee. GST does not apply to court fees and all divorce fees are set by Federal Government Regulations – Family Law (Fees) Regulation 2012.
The reduced fee is applicable if you hold certain government concession cards or if you can demonstrate financial hardship. If you are making a joint application for your divorce, both you and your partner need to qualify for the reduced fee to apply for this lower divorce cost.
The good news is that, if you use our fixed-fee service, you’ll be able to keep your professional fees to a minimum. This is because our fixed fees are far cheaper than instructing a lawyer on a time basis and provide you with certainty that you won’t have any unexpected bills to pay as part of your divorce. On top of this, you’ll also have certainty that your documents and forms will be filed correctly and accurately. Plus, if required, we can also represent you in court – and your costs won’t escalate beyond the fixed fee quote.
When you engage Amicus to assist with your divorce application, there are no hidden fees or drawn-out processes. Instead, if you provide all the information we request in a timely manner, we can provide you with fast, affordable and guaranteed results.
At Amicus, we pride ourselves on being transparent at all stages of the process, including the fees you’ll pay. Depending on your circumstances, we have a number of different options available for you. To make sure you’re only paying for the service you need, we ask a few personal questions that allow us to provide you with a tailored quote.
